NÒMARHYTHM TEXTILE and Jordan Brand have launched a collaborative apparel collection. The founders, Masako Noguchi and Takuma Sasaki, told Hypebeast in an exclusive interview that the project aims to translate their 20-year legacy of refined Tokyo textile design onto a global athletic stage.
Rather than focusing on basketball, the collection draws deep inspiration from Japan's national reverence for baseball. It builds on a domestic activation with the Tokyo Giants from earlier this summer. The partnership centers around the story of a fictional athletic team named "RHYTHM." The apparel avoids standard athletic mesh, opting instead for dark, wash-treated woven fabrics across structured baseball shirts and utility trousers designed to age naturally.
Crafting a Fictional Team
The undisputed centerpiece is the "RHYTHM" team bomber jacket. It brings the fictional team narrative to life through embroidered floral motifs, graphic appliqués, and a detailed printed lining. Noguchi explained that the idea for the fictional team came up during a kickoff meeting with the Jordan team. "The moment the idea came up, the story of the collection fell into place," she told Hypebeast.
The collection also highlights NÒMARHYTHM TEXTILE's signature "Draw Your Garden" motif. This hand-drawn floral pattern is fused directly with Jordan Brand's iconic red Jumpman logo on a lightweight bandana. Noguchi said this print carries a significance almost equal to that of their own logo.
A Deliberate Palette and Process
The collection utilizes a restrained black palette, accented only by the red Jumpman logo. Sasaki said they chose black due to its strong association with Jordan. Wash treatments were applied to bring out texture and character in the fabrics, making them feel immediately natural. "We wanted to bring multiple techniques and details together within a single garment," Sasaki said.
Founder Takuma Sasaki recalled his first pair of Jordans was the AJ6, which he got when he was 14. He described it as feeling like owning a piece of the culture itself. Masako Noguchi called the global project a "great honor, and incredibly exciting."
Navigating a Global Partnership
The founders emphasized that preserving their intricate craftsmanship while executing at a global scale was paramount. Sasaki noted the Jordan team had been visiting their collections in Tokyo and Paris long before the project began. He said the team understood the heart of NÒMARHYTHM TEXTILE-to textiles and craftsmanship-and how they bring those elements into a contemporary context. The partnership's focus on a fictional team narrative mirrors the way fans follow the stories and stats of their favorite real-world teams.
Noguchi added that a visit to the Jordan campus to explore historical archives was fascinating. What resonated most was the brand's open-mindedness and willingness to embrace challenges, a spirit she hopes to carry forward. This collaborative spirit is essential in sports, whether designing a new line or managing a team's squad for the upcoming season.
The collection is officially arriving to unite Japanese craft with global athletic heritage.
