Footwear brand norda and mountain sports equipment leader Black Diamond have entered a long-term partnership. The collaboration, sparked by a shared admiration for mountain runner Joe Grant, has produced an integrated kit for alpine movement, including a brand-new shoe and updated Black Diamond gear.
The inaugural collection is anchored by the norda x Black Diamond 000, a shoe designed for long days on variable and uneven high-mountain terrain. According to Adam John, norda’s Creative Director, the partnership was built from the ground up by creating this new silhouette rather than co-branding an existing model. Black Diamond’s contributions include complementary upgrades to its equipment to support similar journeys.
Dan Rowe, Special Projects and Design Lead at Black Diamond, said the partnership's origins began at the athlete level. "The origins of this partnership began at the athlete level, with admiration for Joe Grant in the way he chooses to interact with trails," Rowe told Hypebeast. Grant served as a link between the brands, with his approach to mountain running helping to define the collaboration's spirit.
Technical and material ethos
Both brands share a philosophy of creating purposeful, considered products without superfluous elements. From a technical standpoint, norda's use of Dyneema fiber set a standard for durability. Black Diamond's accompanying gear, including the Distance Pack and Mini Mission Duffel, is constructed from Challenge Sailcloth, described as the brand's analog to Dyneema.
Heritage and innovation are expressed through specific details. The Distance Packs and Mini Mission Duffels feature embroidery, while the trekking poles incorporate subtle, never-before-seen details like anodization and laser etching.

The full kit is designed for efficient alpine movement and is finished in a color palette of obsidian and moonstone, accented by soft pink kunzite. The colors draw inspiration from minerals found in mountain environments. The available items are listed below.
