Balenciaga SS27 Fuses Couture Techniques with Menswear
Pierpaolo Piccioli's Balenciaga SS27 collection, presented at Paris Fashion Week, applies couture craftsmanship to elevate everyday menswear garments.

Balenciaga’s SS27 menswear collection debuted at Paris Fashion Week on October 1 under creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli. Titled Les Coraux de la Liberté, the ready-to-wear line applies haute couture techniques to redefine casual luxury staples for a new generation.
Menswear focus and design interventions
The collection elevates prototypical garments including denim jeans, shirting, T-shirts, and bomber jackets. Couture methods add volume and the house’s signature shapes to the range. In menswear, subtle couture-inspired interventions add renewed character and dynamism to contemporary closet staples. Denim jeans, T-shirts, shirts, jackets, and tailoring formed the foundation.
Stitching was taken from internal tailoring structures and applied to ready-to-wear. This technique was applied to leather and cotton to create basque-like shapes. Bias cutting was applied to jeans and shirts to shift proportions. The body remained central, drawing on Cristóbal Balenciaga's philosophy of designing from the body outwards.
Key menswear looks and details
Specific looks demonstrate the fusion of casual and couture. One menswear look features a pink button-up shirt given a hoodie treatment. Another includes extra-baggy tan cargo pants with a skirt panel on the back. Bomber jacket sleeves are reinterpreted as bold leg-of-mutton style shoulders for blazers.
The wardrobe focused on denim jeans, button-down shirts, T-shirts, bombers, and structured suits. Sewing methods from internal tailoring structures created distinct basque volumes on casual leather jackets and cotton tops.
Materials, techniques, and inspirations
Handcrafted accessories and materials show the artisanal approach. The collection featured hand-draped leather bags and eyewear with artisan-braided arms.
Jewelry pieces were inspired by Getaria seashells, taking inspiration from natural forms. Calais lace and cutwork were used as structural elements onto the body. Silhouettes were designed with movement, comfort, and ease in mind. The collection’s title references a 2025 work by French artist Aude Franjou made from wrapped linen, an installation of which was featured at the shows.
Show context and creative vision
The presentation was attended by notable figures including Lauryn Hill, Law Roach, and Lola Tung. Pierpaolo Piccioli emphasized the forward-looking vision behind the techniques. He said the luxury label intends to show that these "methods and meanings can have relevance for a new generation, for the future."
A vibrant color palette punctuated the lineup. Bright orange appeared in sheer dresses. Neon pink, mustard yellow, and plum were used in funnel jackets, blazers, and accessories. The collection balances relaxed, city-ready streetwear with highly ornate closing gowns, echoing the 55th Balenciaga Couture Collection.
